Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has claimed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the best thing to have happened to Indian cricket. He also stated that it was unfair to blame the league for the national team’s poor performance, adding that only the players must be held accountable.

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has said that captain Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma will have to shoulder the major responsibility when India face Pakistan in the T20 World Cup later in the year. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced the groups for the Men's T20 World Cup 2021. The event will be held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 17 to November 14, with BCCI retaining the hosting rights as India were originally scheduled to host the event.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has opined that he does not see England winning any of the four Tests in the upcoming Test series. According to Gambhir, England do not have the spin attack to trouble India. Moeen Ali, Dom Bess and Jack Leach are the three spinners for the visitors in the Test series. Ali has 181 wickets to his name, Bess 31 and Leach 44.

Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir has agreed that Shubman Gill must open the batting with Rohit Sharma in the England series, but added that one should not put pressure on him as these are still early days in his international career. Gill made his Test debut in Australia, and scored 259 runs in three matches series, with two fifties, including the 91 in the record chase at Gabba. According to Gambhir, while Gill has made an impressive start to his Test career, things can get tough at the big stage, and hence he must remain grounded.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir feels that the current Australian batting line-up is the weakest he has ever seen. Gambhir wants the Indians to make best use of the same and ensure that they clinch the Test series. According to the cricketer-turned-politician, the current Aussie batting line-up is nowhere near that of England, New Zealand, and India.

Having gone down in the first Test at Adelaide, India have a massive task on hand when they face Australia in the Boxing Day Test at MCG, starting December 26. A loss would mean that for the first time in 88 years India will finish a year without a Test win. Apart from Adelaide, they lost both their matches in New Zealand.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels that the entire controversy surrounding the Rohit Sharma fiasco could have been handled in a much better manner. Rohit was initially not selected in any of three squads for the tour of Australia. However, following the hullabaloo over his participation in the IPL 2020 play-offs, including the final, he was added to the Test squad.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has termed Ben Stokes as a player in a completely different league. According to Gambhir, no player comes close to Stokes on current form. Stokes hit a match-winning 176 in the second Test against West Indies to help the hosts level the series. Gambhir scored 313 runs and claimed nine wickets in the first two Tests.

Indian captain Virat Kohli may be rated by many as the best batsman in the world today. He averages over 50 in all three formats of the game with 43 ODI tons and 27 in Tests. Most cricket pundits admit that the 31-year-old has the best chance of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 international hundreds.
